This Louisiana Army National Guard Multi-Use Readiness Center
at the North Shore Regional Airport in Hammond, Louisiana. The project consists of a 3-floor Readiness
Center of approximately 97,611 square feet, as well as additional associated
support buildings. The main building serves
as the administrative headquarters for the 244th Command Aviation Battalion and
the 204th Air Traffic Services Group. This unit includes a team of 29 permanent
officers and elected personnel and an additional 416-guard reserve unit.
Offices, briefing rooms, assembly areas, and service amenities such as locker
rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms are all included within this main facility. The
construction of the facility features a combination of concrete, precast
concrete, and composite steel, all designed for progressive collapse.
This adjacent 160,000 square foot Army Aviation Support Facility was designed
to house and maintain multiple rotary wing aircraft in the main facility and
fixed wing aircraft in a separate facility on-site. This aviation facility was
specially designed with durable masonry and steel construction with a standing
seam metal roof, concrete floor, mechanical and electrical equipment. Due to the nature of the campus, physical security
measures include maximum feasible standoff distance from roads, parking areas,
and vehicle unloading areas, security berms, heavy landscaping, and bollards.
The projects required intimate coordination
with the Hammond Airport and the FAA in order to properly coordinate pile
driving, structural steel erection, metal roof installation, precast panel
erection, runway tie-ins and site utility coordination. Neither safety nor standards could ever be
compromised if the airport was to stay in operation and the project was to be
performed safely within the contract time and budget.
